ADHD: Science, Psychology, Social Context, and Practical Tools

1 Class

ADHD is a developmental disorder seen children and adults. It spans challenges in multiple domains of self-regulation, including inhibition and impulsivity, executive functioning, emotional regulation, and sustained attention and distraction control. At the same time, ADHD also includes anomalies of embodied experience.

This workshop draws from emerging research in the science, psychology, and embodied experience of ADHD. We explore:

  • the biochemical issue of ADHD, and why stimulants work
  • the connection between ADHD and trauma
  • the social context of ADHD, including diagnosis and treatment
  • interventions for executive functioning, emotional regulation, and hyperactivity
  • how embodied approaches to ADHD can help

We examine several interoceptive and mindfulness-based practices, as well as where they have the most therapeutic impact in the cycle of ADHD.
