Fewer than half the cells in our bodies are human. We are home to an astounding 39 trillion non-human microbes. What’s more, our microbiome hosts more genes than there are observable stars in the universe.
Understanding how our microbiome works, the principles that power it, and the way it shapes us can boost our health and well-being.
In this course, we’ll explore:
- the gut microbiome + its relationship to immunity + mood
- connections between the gut microbiome + vagus nerve
- the gut microbiome + connective tissue disease
- the oral microbiome (cheeks, tongue, teeth) + health
- the skin microbiome + its roles, including wound healing
- the connection between these microbiome systems and viruses like SARS-CoV-2
- top therapeutic tools, e.g. food, oral + nasal care, etc
We’ll explore this information in light of social context, including body image and our self-to-body relationship.
